    Caslon 701 Not Flipping

    Hello everyone,

I purchased my first flip clock earlier today. I knew it wasn't in working condition, but I enjoy tinkering so purchased anyways. I just took it apart and have some questions about how to fix it. Everything seems to be in great condition. The synchronizer spins on its own, bulb works, gears and tiles work when turning the knobs. Only problems I can see is its missing the top 8/bottom 9 tile.

I think my problem with the clock not operating is in the motor/gearbox (idk the proper term). I can see where a small brass gear that protrudes from it should be turning the other clock gears but it is not turning. I've attached pictures that hopefully depict what I am describing. I would like some advice on how to proceed and what it will take to get in there and hopefully fix whatever issue it is having. Thank you!

    Hello Will,

When the rotor is spinning but the outgoing gear is not then likely the problem is indeed the gearbox. To open up the gearbox remove the tiny screw in the middle of the lid and scrape away the brown glue. You wil then probably find one of the two issues described in these posts:
    broken first gear: https://www.flipclockfans.com/forum/...-a-copal-motor
    broken last gear: https://www.flipclockfans.com/forum/...al-gear-repair

Not described in these posts is how to further open the gearbox. You need to drill out the three rivets just until you can force the plate off the rivets. When you do this with care you the plate can later on be snapped back in place (and otherwise you can glue it).
