    Panasonic RC-6025

    Hello Everyone!

I recently acquired a Panasonic RC-6025 and I'm eager to begin the restoration process. I've been a long-time observer, but this is my first time owning a vintage clock radio.

I'm pretty excited to get started! One issue I've noticed is that the switch from AM to FM is a bit sticky and doesn't work very well. I haven't tested the alarm functionality yet, but the clock is keeping time accurately.

My restoration approach aims to strike a balance between improving and cleaning the device without causing any irreversible damage. (For example, I considered using Retr0bright but decided against it due to the potential for accelerated yellowing.)

    Restoration Plan:
    • Polish the front plastic
    • Clean the circuit board with isopropyl alcohol to remove dust and dirt
    • Lubricate any components that may need it
    • Replace capacitors, if necessary
    • Replace burnt-out light bulb
    • Fix sticky switches (I've heard contact cleaner works well)

    Current Shopping Cart:
    • MICRO MINI LAMP, CLEAR, 5.5MM, 12V, 50MA
    • Meguiar's G12310 PlastX Clear Plastic Cleaner & Polish - 10 Fluid Ounces
    • MG Chemicals - 409B-140G 409B Electrosolve Zero Residue Contact Cleane

I would greatly appreciate any additional advice or suggestions you may have! I've

already watched a few restoration videos, but I'm always open to more tips.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Ah, the famous Groundhog Day clock
Your plan looks good, nothing I can add to that. I would say, go ahead and if you run into anything, just call out for help.
Looking forward to see the result.

Just wanted to share that my restoration project was a success! I had some issues with the switch running smoothly and tried using contact cleaner, but it didn't make a huge difference. Thankfully, I primarily plan on using FM, so it's not a big deal.

I did a 12-hour retrobrighting treatment and I'm thrilled with how vibrant it looks now. Additionally, I used Meguiar's G12310 PlastX to polish the front, and it looks great!

To personalize my clock even more, I bought a 5-1 FM transmitter (Ombsyej 3 in 1 Bluetooth 5.0 Transmitter Receiver FM) and placed it right outside the clock, so I can listen to my own music in the morning. It's been a great addition to my morning routine!

During the restoration process, I also superglued some broken connectors and was able to fix all the broken mounting points (which were already broken before the restoration). I cleaned the dust off the speaker and replaced the lightbulb with no issues. And if anyone needs spare bulbs, I have nine extras!

Overall, I'm extremely pleased with how the restoration turned out. It was definitely worth the effort!

Great job! The retro-brighting has worked out very I can see.
Neat idea to use an FM transmitter, I never thought about that.

        Thanks for sharing!
