Two Wood Mechanical 7 Segment Display Projects

First from Japan by karakurist a neat project using what they say is CNC'd wood to make a mechanical 7 segment digit display driven by a series of gears attached to a motor.

    Short video showing digits moving
video, sharing, camera phone, video phone, free, upload

    Longer making of video

The website appears to be http://karakurist.jp/?p=2472

Also out of Japan is Takao's take on a segmented digital display, out of what looks like laser cut wood. This one is driven by a pendulum when assembled.

Making of Video (たかお の 工作)

I can only imagine how much prototyping and time went into both of these.

It's very cool. But I'm wondering how long something like that would last.
