Motorola Model TC24ES Alarm Clock

Every so often I run across a clock on an eBay search that is just plain weird. In this case it's a very old Motorola branded alarm clock in a form factor I do not understand at all. I would hazard it was competing for the same market as the Zenith "Cabinet" clock from earlier; but as this form factor is totally extinct I guess there wasn't much room in the market. I'm more surprised there was more than one! The eBay listing for this oddity is HERE for those interested to see more.

A couple more pictures for posterity, including the back panel and sticker. Perhaps one of these codes indicates when this was manufactured? Definitely a device from another time.
