Panasonic RC-6004, a marvel in miniaturization!

I've never owned an RC-6004, so when one came up for sale on eBay, I had to grab it. I've seen videos on them before, but I've never come to realize just how small they are in reality. It's actually almost smaller than my RC-6001!

It also uses a smaller mechanism and tiles than many clocks I've come across. They remind me of the RCA tower I did, or the Copal 222's flip digits. The motor drive mechanism is really cool here too, very small and compact, yet still uses a "full" copal-II motor. It's amazing how well built this is, yet how small they've made it. Metal chassis, entirely separate from the case as well.

This clock was low hours, as it has the original bulb with very little wear, and besides some FM/AM switch oxidation, and case wear, it's in perfect shape. Now to figure out, what color it will become...

Yep, these are super-tough little buggers. It's really just the RC-6003...in fake woodgrain. Why it got a whole new model number is kind of odd, but here it is.

The crazy thing with these early units (and a few others) is that they have a zinc-plated chassis! In a cheap clock radio! That was usually relegated to fancier builds.

Great pics - thanks for sharing. This one would look nice upcycled. Interested in seeing how it ends up.

Alright, so here it is! Came out pretty well. I've only used this yellow once before.

That is pretty! Reminds me of all of the cheery colors the old princes phones came in.

It's interesting about "Princess Phones." Many people don't even know what your talking about. But princess phones were a big deal back in the day. In fact one of the first commercially successful flip clocks in the United States compared the clock to a princess phone.

It even glows in the dark ... like a Princess phone.
