Hour tile flipping out of sync

So, here's a conundrum. When I advance the hour and minutes tiles manually on a Copal II mechanism, the hour flips in sync with the minutes. However, the motor turns the hour wheel out of sync, so that the hour changes a few seconds after the 00 flips down. I'm not sure if this a problem in the gearbox or somewhere else.

From my experience, I just waited a few days and let the clock do its work. Most likely, the clock hasn't been on in a long time and probably needs some "practice" to get it working right.

If the motor's not making a racket and the numbers don't get stuck when you try to flip it manually, then you should be fine in terms of correct movement of the tiles. When I plugged in mine the first time, I've waited as long as five or six seconds before the hour tile decided to flip over. Now, both flip as intended to.

That's as far as I know, let time do its work literally. Best of luck to you!

Friendly Scientist thanks for your post. It didn't improve over time, so I took it apart again under the asusmption the hour and minutes wheel were out of sync. The clock had an annoying habit of flipping the hour tile in sync outside the cabinet and then out of sync once I put it in the cabinet. Maybe the cracked gear on the axle that turns the minutes has something to do with it.
After about an hour of playing with the lever and wheels, putting it in and out of cabinet like this, it seems to be flipping in sync again. So one of those things must have been the problem, but what it was, I have no idea.

Weird, does the clock STILL flip in sync when it's put together as we speak?

If the clock runs in sync for a while, sounds like when you've been putting it together and apart, the gears finally matched up and the problem was solved. Maybe a gear was out of place beforehand. I've had experience where the previous owner had already took apart the clock before, evidenced by mismatched/loose screws.

If the problem persists, then the gear definitely seems to be near the end of its life.
In that case, go with your hunch on the gear that turns the axle that turns the minutes. Find it and see if there's any missing teeth. If so, count how many teeth the gear has including the missing ones, measure the diameter/width, and see if there's another gear like that for sale on toy stores at the model airplane or RC car sections. Or online if that's your fancy ^^

I've heard about the possibility of using 3D printing, but I'm not too sure about how the technology works. I do have a friend whose roommate has a 3D printer, but I've never used one before.

Best of luck to you and your clock my friend! Do not stress!
