    Magnavox Alarm and Timing Repair

I have a Magnavox clock radio that was in decent condition, and was relatively easy to clean up and repair so far (needed the motor cleaned and light replaced). However, I have a few issues that still elude me, and I haven't found much info on these problems.

    1. The alarm does not go off when the time triggers. The switch does close, and I verified that all wires are attached and the continuity changes between triggered and untriggered. Part of the problem may be that the snooze button is really loose, but I've tried triggering the alarm with the button manually pulled up and down. The speaker works fine (the radio works splendidly).

    2. The clock keeps time correctly, but once an hour the time gets stuck while the motor still spins. I'm running it to take note which times stick, but it's pretty irregular on which minute it gets stuck.

    3. The radio knobs come off easily, but the clock sleep and time adjust knobs don't want to come off (I tried pulling as I did with the radio knobs, but it seems like it always transfers to the gearset inside and I don't want to break that). Any tips on how to remove them? I have been so far just leaving them on, but having the clock hanging from the top housing has made repairs more difficult and ripping of wires possible.

Thank you for any help! Hopefully this can also serve helpful to others new to flip clocks like myself. I do have a background of electronics and mechanical elements, so if I have to dig and trace or check parts I don't mind the search.

Would it be possible to post any essential pics/photos?

These are the photos I have right now - I can get the model number when I see it again later tonight. If you would like any particular photos, I can definitely grab them then.

As a quick update, the times that the clock gets stuck isn't consistent, but it always gets stuck in the first 15 minutes of each hour (after that it counts up perfectly fine, until the next hour).

Adding a closer look at the label on the bottom, as well as the troublesome knobs.

I would definitively suggest opening it up and then get it running (of course watch out with any exposed wiring :-) so that you can see where the error might be.

As far as the 'troublesome' knobs, try some very thin oil or WD40 on them, let it soak for a night or so and then try with some force to pull off the knobs. It might take some patience, but eventually they will come off.

This alarm was sold under many different brand names. I have the Magnavox, Philco and Zenith versions. The snooze is mechanical. Push it down and then advance the clock by hand and you should see it slowly rise. To set the alarm you must have both buttons on top depressed (ON and AUTO).
