Copal / Caslon 601 works too fast

Hello . I am new on the forum and I use Google translation ...
I just received a beautiful Copal / Caslon 601 Deluxe that works but runs too fast (tile drops to 55 seconds).
This is the first time I have the problem on Copal engine (220V 50Hz).
    Possible setting?

Hmm, there is not much to 'set' on these motors as far as I know...

Is it spinning freely? Even the slightest bit of dirt or old grease on the inside could stop it from running 100% and if it is not running 100%, it could be missing some seconds.

Another option is that one if the wheels inside is slightly worn, it is rare, but I have had it happen once or twice. Open it up and see inside, but first I would try to either lubricate it to the max, just use excessively much oil and keep it running afterwards and wait for a day, perhaps 2 to see whether it is keeping better time.

    Good luck!

    Robert

      Hello Robert
I also thought about it but the engine runs freely but too fast!

Well, if I were you, I would open up the engine and see... In it's current condition, you cannot use it anyway.
Take care, there are lots of small parts in there, be really careful when taking the shell apart, take good notice of which gearwheel goes where.

Alternatively, I could send you a replacement motor, I have a motor exactly for this particular clock. You can send me a personal message if you're interested. I might 'trade in' the old motor.

Might be something like the issue I ran into: https://www.flipclockfans.com/forum/...fast#post14755
This is though an entirely different motor. But if there is a 12 teeth gear in there it could have the same root cause. It's just the 'running too fast' and '55 seconds' triggered me.

Looking back at this and being slightly more experienced now than I was then, with the information available at hand, I would guess that the metal tab holder which prevents the hour from flipping until it has reached exactly 00 minutes is not in place of bent. I read his message again and I expect the clock to run exactly 60 minutes every hours, it is just that the hour jumps on the 55th minute, implying that the metal tab holder is defective.

It is possible that there was another issue causing this, but I suspect that it is the tabholder, the one which sits on the side, not the top one, for the hours and the minutes.

The original post is about 55 seconds, not minutes, so I think this is a different problem. Nevertheless, good to learn about that issue as well!

ah, sorry, misread that one.... in that case, it could be an internal issue with the motor. It is rare with these motors, but it can happen indeed!
