Thanks to you all, my Copal 227 is running silently again. (Disassembled case, removed the motor, and did the dip-and-spin technique in isopropyl alcohol.)
I've got another one now for parts (and with a super cool faux-woodgrain exterior) ... that's dead as a doornail, looks like someone tried to pry the flywheel off of it. Boooooooo.....
A new flywheel sticker is on its way from Ireland from flipoclock . All I need now is the courage to locate and replace the neon and my beloved timepiece will be good as new!
