    Copal Model 222 repair motor/gear

    Hey,

I am new to the Flip Clock Community. I bought a used Copal Model 222 (with "Artin" sticker in the housing?) from eBay and want to bring it back to life. But I need some help and answers to some questions, I hope you can help me.
    • Main problem: the small gear attached to he motor does not move. Can I fix that somehow?
    • The motor is running with 230V, the flywheel is spinning
    • But the flywheel is not really attached to the motor, I can simply take it off. Is this normal?
    • I want to change the small light. Is there any recommended replacement?
I hope to get this beauty running with your help

Welcome to the forum and congrats on your first(?) flip clock.

Although your Artin clock looks like a Copal 222, it is not a Copal, it is a so-called 'knock-off'. It is still a nice clock, however the very first gear, the one attached to the flywheel is made from plastic. These tend to break and separate from the flywheel, causing indeed for the flywheel to separate from the motor.
You have no other option than to open up the motor to see what is going on. If you are lucky, the gear has only cracked and you might be able to glue it back to the shaft, otherwise you will have to source a replacement gear...

Thanks for your quick reply! it's indeed my first flip clock and I love the design. No digital version can replace the flip. I am still trying to open the motor, it is not that easy.

Do you have by the way any more info about Artin clocks? It is somehow shocking that there is absolutely no info available on the Internet...

Thanks for your help so far. I managed to open the motor and gear box attached and you were right: the little gear fell off from the flywheel but is not broken. I just need to glue it back to the shaft. The motor is running and the gears are moving (very slowly).

I took some photos and going to post them here and in my own blog for others
