Afternoon,
I'd previously found a GE 8116K that I wanted to put in a jar bare bones as I enjoy the aesthetic. The clock was running; however, the light was not, I ordered a replacement on eBay and replaced the old cord as the old one was brittle. I had a Halloween decor light fixture I was tossing and figured id see if I could power it from the same input.
I wired the light (75W 125V) to the same input as the clock, and everything still worked fine. I was stoked as it looked cool behind the clock in the jar, possibly better than the front light would end up looking. I used zip ties to tidy up the wires and didn't notice a zip tie buckle was in the way of the fins and I ended up powering it all up, thinking it was time to put it on the shelf. But the time never changed, tried removing the bulb from the equation, didn't help. The clock is near silent so its hard to tell if anything is happening, i just have to wait a minute and try something new.
My guess is one of two things. 1. the zip tie holding the fins back for a few minutes burnt the rotor, or 2. the frequency/voltage draw of the light damaged something with the 60hz.
Does anyone have any ideas on things I could try to troubleshoot, should i try to dismantle and reoil the telechron?
How I had it soldered last night.
Was looking great...
