    Grundig HR-50 Help

I purchased a Grundig HR-50 on sight and without hesitation a few months back. I know nothing about it other than it was the coolest flip clock I had seen yet. I finally had a moment to take a closer look at it recently.

I figured it would come with issues. Other than the dull bulb, there is only one problem. The radio and speaker are perfect in sound and tune. The motor is up and going after some delicate oiling, but the the pieces that control when the hour flips at the 59 minute mark are mangled to a terrible degree. The hour and minute are on the same rotation, so every minute is also 1 hour.

I can not tell how they were originally at this point. I’m attaching pictures as they will explain it better than my words. I’m happy to take more or answer any questions to help better find a solution.

pictures attached and more via Imgur album with a video.

I've not worked on a Grundig myself, but looking at the part it seems like there would be some means to replicate it's function- either by 3D printing something, building something from scrap materials, or potentially by cannibalizing the part off of a dead clock with the same mechanism.

I certainly hope you don't have to remove the tiles to gain access to that piece, but that may be the case as well.

Here's a video and a few images of what a non mangled HR-50 looks like. Hopefully helps some.

      Video of it turning:

Those pictures are very helpful! I’m pretty sure I can it back to working using those for reference. Will likely need to take the numbers out to do it well enough it will last.

        That’ll be fun.

        Thanks!

If you need any parts or perhaps a complete clockmechanism, I might be able to help. It looks like something I would be able to pull out of my parts pile (of crates).

Those little tabs of sheet metal are very difficult to get back into correct orientation. I’d recommend finding a parts clock or mechanism if you can and replacing most of the mechanism unless you feel you can tackle removing the hour flip assembly to replace it. No idea of your mechanical abilities. Good luck!

I would actually really appreciate that. I’d obviously pay and cover shipping if you have something that will work.

not sure what the rules are here, but email is the best way to get in touch.

I will look and see if I have something with a similar orientation of the alarmwheel, the sleepknob, etcetera and let you know.
