I'll be the first to admit I scour eBay for good deals on these fine Copal clocks we all love, and recently I got my hands on a 229 for a nice price. It came in a couple days, and arrived in working condition.
However it was a little more beat up and weathered than initially thought. When plugged in, it worked, but man it was NOISY!!
After a motor cleaning, it was back to normal, quiet operation. However as soon as I touched the motor decals, they disintegrated, so I went about getting them off the motor stator wheel. It left my workmat an absolute mess!

The neon was a little tired as well, so I went about replacing that with a nice bright new bulb. Works like a charm. Part of me wishes the day display on this clock was illuminated as well.

After some ingenuity and close studying of the motor decals from other clocks, I found the approximate dimensions (also used JumbleJeff's post, thanks!) of the decal, then made one up in Affinity Desginer, then printed it on some sticker paper I have and it turned out pretty good. I think it even fits this clock better than the original red decals. I'll post the design files if enough people are interested!

And the finished product! I decided to leave the fake woodgrain this time, it contributes to this clocks history. This one was headed for the bin even though it worked. Glad to see someone else can enjoy it in the future!

And coming soon, a surprise from Japan!
