    1R1736 Magnavox

Hey there, I have a Magnavox 1r1736 and I have a problem with the movement. the motor works and it's output gear is turning the gear it is attached to and the whirligig is turning. but the clock is not advancing. I can't see any stripped gears. but I wanted to ask for help here first before I take apart any farther. thanks

These use push/pull motors. They have no polarization for spinning/operating! So, the motor will have a %50 chance of starting in the wrong direction and a little cam (in the motor housing) will catch it if it spins the wrong way. Once that cam engages the motor will briefly bind up and start spinning the other, correct, direction.

I have seen that little cam get stuck in old grease sometimes. Over-oiling can also make the cam stick to other parts of the housing and fail to catch.

Watch the whirlygig when you plug in the motor. Does it start one way and then change directions after a few seconds? Remember that sometimes it starts in the correct direction.

        Glad you got it working.

I will check, but I don't think I have any tiles for these.
