    RCA RWD436R, The “Rosewood”

I picked up this RCA clock for cheap, and it’s my first vertical flip clock. I was really impressed by the internal design, its really easy to take apart. It’s one screw on the back, and then you slide the whole assembly forward, don’t PRY at the case, it won’t help.

This was really, really dirty inside. The neon bulb was still working, but not really doing anything because of how dirty it was inside!

After cleaning it up, replacing the neon bulb, oiling the motor, and refinishing the faded woodgrain in a sour apple green, this is gonna be a nice little clock. Waiting on the case to dry, I plan on reassembling it all tonight.

Thanks for the look inside! Interesting. I like it that you're boldly painting this thing.

      Nice clocks and interesting pics.

The Copal GG1297, that one can be added to the list of different Copal motors inside different clocks as to be found somewhere on the forum. Surely, this one of them rare motors, only to be found in this clock, but who knows.

I took it apart and thoroughly oiled this one to make sure it would run a long time, as I too thought it was a rare configuration of clock.

A good looking clock to begin with, now even better in that green color! Is that the final color, or are you doing additional coats/layers to it?

In any event, looking forward to what the end product will be- it looks like it's going to be great already!

Just beat ya to posting by a minute, lol. I ended up doing about 3 primer coats, 4 base coats, and 2 clear coats.

if you want the finish to be really smooth, you can try to sand down the final product with wet sandpaper 2500 or 3000 or even finer, I have tested it on a flip clock I painted as a trial and it was nicer and finer after being sanded than just painted. You can get an almost original finish, like it would have been when it was new.

I will try that with my next clock I do. Thanks for the tip!
